Set your Vision and Mission - short form

Learn the difference between the two, the importance, create your own, and actually use them.

Org Chart (Free above)

Surprisingly, most small businesses don’t have one. If they do, most are incomplete and of little value. We use the org chart to ask some very simple questions and avoid some very common problems.

Create your Customer Experience

Here we think about a person’s experience as they engage with your company. We begin with your marketing invite and end with your customer service follow-up. We could take hours to unpack this – but we’ll shoot for 20 minutes.

Create proper Redundancy

Let’s talk about bottlenecks. And places you may be vulnerable. We’ll discuss the role redundancy could play as you strategically cover your bases.

Hire and retain quality employees

Here we talk about ways to set expectations and build culture.  Most businesses miss the opportunities found within this one. Nailing this one pays giant dividends.

Implement a Communication strategy

What is your company’s internal communication strategy? How do you disseminate information? How do you know if it’s been received? Do you use chat platforms? Text? E-mail? Meetings? Do you have the virtual worker thing figured out? We discuss these things and more.

Categorize your Core Values

Learn the importance of core values. As a leader, you need your own. And your company needs its own. These become immovable objects and part of your company DNA.

Set goals, measure progress

We’ll look at common fail points within the goal setting/measuring realm. And we’ll revolve our time around a simple question: are you winning?

Live by a Meeting Sequence

This needs to be part of your company’s DNA. Here we build a skeleton structure for what this could look like. Once it’s set, you’ve got to do it. Setting it up then NOT doing it is worse than not setting one up.

Create an Employee Handbook (I'll give you mine)

Marc uses one of his handbooks as an example – you are given a copy of it to use for inspiration. We’ll discuss its major elements and how to use it. Does a handbook have any legal merit? Let’s find out.

Marketing

Not a masterclass “how to,” but we talk about an effective approach to marketing and we draw a grid to help organize your thoughts.

Lead through Accounting - the right reports

This is a very basic discussion about accounting best practices. And, we discuss a couple reports you may want to run. Learn to use your books as a leadership tool.

Bottom-liners will love the lack of fluff in this course.  Thorough, yes.  Fluffy, no.

The word for this course…concise.  Make things simple.  If you can’t get thoughts on a napkin, they are too complex.

This course is a series of “napkins” – a Strategic Plan explained in simple terms so you can build your own plan.

This course cannot be both concise and exhaustive.  Each segment gets you to a point you can “take it from there.”  Build your Strategic Plan and add life to it for years to come.

A core value of Calibration is no BS – we focus on making something usable.  The work you do NOW on your Strategic Plan will actually guide your future.

This course is not brief…it’s concise.  But not at the expense of being complete.  Each module is thorough and at the end of Calibration, you will have your own Strategic Plan and quality Employee Handbook.  You’ll love it.

It’s really quite simple – in Calibration, you’re building a Strategic Plan.

"Why Calibration may not be for me" and other FAQs:
    Who is Calibration designed for?

Small business owners and start-up leaders.

Why would Calibration not be for me?

It can’t touch on everything.  It’s not an all-inclusive business course – it’s hyper focused on the most critical issues to get you off the ground or resolve very common problem areas.  So, you could be left wanting more.  If this is you, maybe Ridgeline is a next step after Calibration.

How long will Calibration take to complete?

Hard to say.  Probably two weekends to get through the videos – they’re only about 20 minutes each.  But, you’ll probably camp in the Strategic Plan for many hours or even days as you work through it.  Maybe you’ll complete it in a few hours, but doubt it.

What will I get out of Calibration?

A fully completed Strategic Plan to guide your next 12 months of business.  Calibration recommends refreshing it every year.  You’ll also receive a really nice Employee Handbook for download.

How do I access The Route once I enroll?

Each person receives their own log-in and dashboard.  Go to www.xspearience.com and click on “dashboard” in the upper right corner.  You will likely be auto-logged after your first time.  If not, click “dashboard” and log in.

    Is Calibration mine forever?

Yep.  Or until XSU goes bankrupt and shuts everything down.  That scenario, however, is not part of the XSU Strategic Plan.

When I enroll multiple people, how does that work?

The guess is you’ll only buy one Calibration.  If you have a small executive team, save $ by only completing one.  But, if you want more than that, or if you want multiple people to complete it to compare them, one person buys with a credit card.  During purchase, they enter the e-mails of everyone participating.  Everyone receives an e-mail with log-in instructions and they all receive their own dashboard.  At least, that’s what the coders told it to do.  Hopefully it keeps behaving.

Where did all the curriculum come from?

Let Marc tell you himself.  Check out About.

Marc (course facilitator) is an Exit Planner. What is that?

Most normal people aren’t that impressed, but it is definitely a thing in the business consulting world.  It’s a certification Marc earned from the Exit Planning Institute.  It simply means he has training in building business value and de-risking that compliment his real-world experience.

Is Calibration ever taught to groups?

Not as much as Base Layer and Ridgeline.  Definitely can – but it’s not as common.  The course seems to be set up fairly well for independent learning, but diving deeper in a group setting could make a lot of sense in the right situation…within a small executive team during a fall planning meeting, for example.

    Let’s get organized.
